A farmer couple came to the clinic last year. They looked very simple, dressed in typical village attire.
“What’s the problem?” — I asked. At once, the woman’s face fell, and it was her husband who narrated their story:
In nine years of marriage, she had conceived three times, but every time after 2–3 months, bleeding would start on its own and they would lose the baby!
Oh my God!!! Just hearing that made my heart sink. The husband answered all my questions — the woman herself didn’t utter a word, and I didn’t force her to. All their reports were normal, yet the reason for repeated miscarriages was unclear.
I examined both of them through pulse diagnosis. She let me do my work quietly. Her answers to some questions were very formal. From her demeanor, her disappointment was obvious. She had only come because her husband insisted on giving it one last try. From her pulse, it was clear that all three doshas — vata, pitta, and kapha — were imbalanced. For that, I advised Panchakarma treatment. I also had her husband’s semen tested and prescribed some virya-vardhak (semen-enhancing) medicines.
After Panchakarma and a course of medicines, within two months she conceived again. They both came to the clinic with the good news — but still, no joy was visible on her face. For the first time, she opened up and said, “I do conceive, but what’s the guarantee this pregnancy will last? Can you really save this baby?”
It was almost like a challenge she threw at me. I reassured her gently and prescribed medicines to help sustain the pregnancy, nasal drops, and gave detailed instructions regarding diet and lifestyle.
They began coming every month for checkups. Slowly, as the months passed, her confidence grew. She started smiling, talking — and the pregnancy continued full term. At the right time, she delivered a healthy baby girl.
Their happiness knew no bounds. Overwhelmed, they even asked me to name their child. Looking at the birth time and planetary positions, I named her Medhasvi — and true to her name, she is indeed bright and full of promise!
See, all their reports were normal, yet the imbalance of the three doshas — something no laboratory can detect — was the real cause. Only pulse diagnosis revealed it. It only took 2–3 months to restore balance, but for that, they had to endure nine years of struggle and lose three little lives.
Last month, their daughter turned one. Today, I marvel at the change in that woman — the same woman who once wouldn’t utter a word, now won’t take a single decision without consulting me: whether about the baby’s food, naming ceremony, ear piercing — everything!
Her curiosity, her joy of motherhood, her overflowing affection — it shines through in every word and action.
